I've been writing software since 1984. Since then I've shipped products, worked the Y2K remediation effort, traded the markets, researched security, and spoken at industry conferences. Today I run Hawthorne LLC and build CoCallers — AI that answers the phone for real-world businesses.
About
John Hasson is an entrepreneur and software engineer based in Folsom, California. He started programming in 1984 and never stopped — a career arc that runs from early personal computing, through the Y2K remediation era, to today's generative-AI boom.
He works across an unusually wide range: designing autonomous AI agents and automation systems, building and shipping production software, researching the quantitative side of the markets (equities and options), and digging into application security. The common thread is a builder's bias — take something complicated and turn it into a tool people can actually use.
Through Hawthorne LLC, he builds CoCallers, an AI voice receptionist platform for property management and contractors. He also ships independent tools like Klunk (klunk.dev), which turns screen recordings into ready-to-use dev tickets, has spoken at industry conferences, and continues to invest in and tinker with emerging technology.
What I do
Decades of hands-on work across software, AI, markets, and security.
Designing and shipping AI agents, voice systems, and automation that handle real work for real businesses.
Programming since 1984 — from low-level systems and Y2K remediation to modern, cloud-native applications.
Quantitative investing and options strategy: data-driven research into equities, volatility, and derivatives.
A long-standing interest in application and platform security, and in building systems that hold up under pressure.
Founding and operating companies — turning prototypes into products and products into businesses.
Sharing what I've learned with technical audiences at industry conferences and events.
Projects
Current ventures and selected work.
An AI voice receptionist and business platform built for property management companies and contractors. CoCallers answers calls, books appointments, sends SMS notifications, and automates the busywork — so teams never miss a customer.
From rambling to ready dev tickets. Record a screen video talking through bugs or feedback — Klunk turns it into structured, timestamped tickets with the problem UI boxed. klunk.dev
The company behind CoCallers — the operating entity for my product and software work.
Just for fun — my passion project rebuilding and preserving The Matrix Online: a searchable forum archive, a browser-based world rebuild, a live devlog, and sandbox building tools. tasteewheat.com
